Hodges & Davis has been serving Northwest Indiana for more than a century and has been integral to its growth by providing legal services and advice to the people and businesses that make the area their home.  Moreover, we are proud to have the privilege of serving our community with the same passion for excellence as the firm’s founding members.

Hodges & Davis was first formed in 1906 when William F. Hodges and Claude V. Ridgely started their partnership in the newly established city of Gary, Indiana.  In addition to their private law practice, the two held numerous legislative and judicial positions.  Hodges served as Chief Deputy Prosecutor for Lake County, became Gary City Attorney, and was elected as the third Mayor of Gary in 1917.  He also served as an Indiana State Senator from 1922-1926.  Sharing his partner’s civic mindedness, Ridgely was appointed as the first Judge of Lake County Superior Court, Room Four, in 1927, and served two terms.

The firm became known as Hodges & Davis in 1927, after Herschel Davis, a preeminent lawyer, became a partner.  Since that time, past and present attorneys with the firm have included a President of the Indiana State Bar Association, a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force, a United States Attorney, an adjunct professor at Valparaiso University School of Law, and a Deputy Attorney General.  Our attorneys also participate as active board members with many local civic and charitable organizations operating in Northwest Indiana.

In the 1970’s, the firm moved its Lake County office from Gary to Merrillville, and in the 1980’s opened its Porter County office in order to better accommodate our many clients from throughout the region.  We continue to provide legal services to our clients in the same dedicated manner, tradition and commitment as did our founding members.
